Traditional Swedish Meatballs

These traditional Swedish meatballs are a comforting and savory dish, perfect for dinner. They are made with a mix of ground beef and pork, seasoned well and cooked to perfection, served with a creamy sauce or on their own.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium finely chopped onion
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup half-and-half
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 pinch sugar

Method

  1. Heat a tablespoon of butter in a skillet over a low flame and sauté finely chopped onions until they become a light golden hue, which should take around 5 to 8 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together bread crumbs, water, and half-and-half, letting it sit for about 2 minutes. Then, add the sautéed onions, ground beef, ground pork, salt, white pepper, and a pinch of sugar, mixing everything until it's well combined. Shape this mixture into roughly 48 small meatballs.
  3. In a separate skillet, melt 3 tablespoons of butter and carefully place the meatballs in. Cook them slowly for about 25 minutes, turning them occasionally until they are nicely browned on the outside and no longer pink on the inside.
