These delightful Swedish Brunscrackers are crispy, sweet treats that are perfect for snacking or enjoying with tea. Their unique flavor comes from a blend of butter and golden syrup, making them a cherished classic.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla sugar
1/4 cup golden syrup
Method
Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour and baking soda until well blended.
In a separate bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, vanilla sugar, and golden syrup until the mixture is light and fluffy. Gradually fold in the sifted flour mixture, mixing until just combined.
Form the dough into two logs, approximately 1 inch in diameter, and arrange them on a lined baking sheet, leaving enough space for them to spread.
Bake in the preheated oven until the cookies achieve a light golden hue and begin to flatten, which should take about 20 to 22 minutes if using margarine, or 13 to 15 minutes with butter.
Remove from the oven and let cool for about 3 minutes. While still warm, slice the rolls diagonally into strips of 1 to 2 inches. Move the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
