Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 large egg

Method

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup of granulated sugar with cornstarch. Gradually add in 1 cup of sliced strawberries, ensuring they are well coated.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Then incorporate the melted butter and egg with a fork until the mixture achieves a crumbly consistency.
  4. Press half of the crumble mixture firmly into the bottom of the greased baking dish. Spread the strawberry mixture evenly over this layer, then sprinkle the remaining crumble mixture on top of the strawberries.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until the top is a golden brown. Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool at room temperature for around 20 minutes. For optimal texture, refrigerate before slicing into 16 bars.
