A refreshing and aromatic spiced iced tea inspired by Thai flavors, perfect for hot days.
Ingredients
4 cups water
4 pieces cardamom pods
1 piece star anise
3 pieces cloves
1 stick cinnamon sticks
1 tablespoon tamarind
4 pieces tea bags
1 cup sugar
1 cup coconut milk
as needed none ice cubes
Method
Start by pouring water into a saucepan and heat it on medium-high until it reaches a rolling boil.
While waiting for the water to boil, lightly crush cardamom pods with a mortar and pestle or the blunt edge of a knife. Once crushed, add them to the boiling water along with star anise, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and tamarind. Reduce the heat and allow it to simmer for 5 minutes.
After the spices have infused, add the tea bags to the pot and stir. Once the mixture begins to simmer again, turn off the heat and let the tea bags steep for another 5 minutes.
Sweeten the tea by adding sugar, then let it sit for an additional 5 minutes. Afterward, strain the tea into a container, pressing the tea bags to release maximum flavor. Cover the container and refrigerate for about 1 hour to chill.
To serve, fill a tall glass with ice, pour in the chilled spiced tea, and top it off with a generous splash of coconut milk for a creamy finish.
