A delectable and comforting Swiss steak dish simmered with fresh vegetables, perfect for a cozy dinner.
Ingredients
1 pound round steak
1 can diced tomatoes
1 medium onions
1 medium green peppers
1 cup flour
0.5 teaspoon salt
0.25 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons shortening
Method
Start by gathering all your ingredients: round steak, diced tomatoes, onions, green peppers, and your favorite seasonings.
In a bowl, mix together flour, half a teaspoon of salt, and a quarter teaspoon of black pepper until well combined.
Sprinkle half of the flour mixture on one side of the steak. Use a meat mallet to gently pound the steak, ensuring the coating sticks. Flip the steak and repeat with the remaining flour mixture.
Cut the coated steak into six equal pieces.
Heat shortening in a large skillet over medium heat, then add the steak pieces. Cook until they are beautifully browned, about 7 to 10 minutes on each side. Cover and let it simmer for around an hour, adding water to keep it moist as needed.
After browning, flip the steak pieces and add in the diced tomatoes, chopped onions, and sliced green bell peppers. Season with additional salt and pepper according to your taste.
Let the mixture simmer for another 30 minutes until the vegetables are soft and the flavors blend harmoniously.
