  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 3 quarts water
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons beef base
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup brown rice

Method

  1. Heat a generous amount of oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add diced bell peppers, onions, and minced garlic, sautéing until they soften and become fragrant, approximately 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. Crumble in the ground beef and cook while stirring until it's evenly browned, which should take around 7 to 10 minutes. Drain any excess fat before moving to the next step.
  3. Introduce 3 quarts of water along with tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, ketchup, beef base, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Mix everything well, then allow the mixture to come to a gentle simmer. Let it simmer for about 30 minutes to enhance the flavors.
  4. In a separate large saucepan, boil 4 cups of water. Once boiling, add brown rice, reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and let it simmer until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed, roughly 45 to 50 minutes. Afterward, stir the cooked rice into the soup.
