Delicious cabbage leaves stuffed with a savory mixture of ground beef, rice, and spices, simmered in a rich tomato sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 head cabbage leaves
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium, diced onion
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons tomato soup
  • to taste none salt
  • to taste none pepper

Method

  1. Gather all the ingredients you'll need for the recipe.
  2. In a saucepan, combine water and rice, and bring it to a boil.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 20 minutes until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed.
  4. While the rice cooks, fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring it to a boil. Add the cabbage leaves and cook for 2 to 4 minutes until they are softened, then drain them well.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, one cup of the cooked rice, chopped onion, a beaten egg, two tablespoons of tomato soup, and season with salt and pepper. Mix everything thoroughly.
  6. Take about two tablespoons of the seasoned beef mixture and place it onto the center of each cabbage leaf.
  7. Fold the edges of the cabbage leaf over the filling, then roll it up tightly, tucking in the sides to keep the filling secure.
  8. Place the stuffed cabbage rolls in a large skillet over medium heat.
  9. Pour the remaining tomato soup over the cabbage rolls.
  10. Cover the skillet, bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Allow it to simmer for around 40 minutes, stirring occasionally and basting the rolls with the cooking liquid.
  11. Once cooked through, serve the savory cabbage rolls hot and enjoy!
