Experience the rich flavors of tender slow-cooked ribs that are perfectly seared and simmered in a savory sauce. Ideal for a cozy dinner.
Ingredients
4 pounds spare ribs
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cups broth
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 cup minced onion
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon seafood seasoning
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
to taste none salt
to taste none pepper
Method
Start by placing your spare ribs in a spacious pot and covering them with water seasoned with a touch of salt. Bring the water to a boil and let the ribs cook for approximately 45 minutes before draining.
In a Dutch oven, warm some olive oil over medium heat until it shimmers. Add the ribs and sear them for around 10 minutes on each side until they achieve a nice golden brown color. Once browned, set the ribs aside on a plate.
In the same Dutch oven, pour in a blend of broth, ketchup, brown sugar, lemon juice, minced onion, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, seafood seasoning, red pepper flakes, nutmeg, and salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly to deglaze the pan, scraping up any tasty bits stuck to the bottom.
Reduce the heat to medium-low and allow the sauce to simmer gently. Return the seared ribs to the pot, ensuring they are generously coated in the sauce. Cover the Dutch oven and let it simmer on low heat for about 3 hours or until the meat becomes incredibly tender and falls off the bone with ease.
