These savory beef lettuce wraps are a delicious and healthy option for dinner, featuring seasoned ground beef served in crisp lettuce leaves with fresh toppings.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 bunch green onions
  • to taste none salt
  • to taste none black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • as needed none water
  • to taste none shredded cheese
  • to taste none diced red onion
  • to taste none chopped tomato
  • a splash none oil

Method

  1. In a large nonstick skillet, heat a drizzle of oil over high heat. Add the white and light green sections of the chopped green onion, keeping the dark green tops aside for garnish.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook for about 5 minutes until it's nicely browned.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium-high. Stir in salt, black pepper, garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, oregano, tomato paste, and ketchup. Continue cooking for another 2 minutes while stirring well.
  4. Use the spatula to flatten the meat mixture and allow it to cook undisturbed for 1 to 2 minutes until it develops a nice crust. Stir and repeat this browning technique one more time.
  5. Pour in some water and keep cooking while occasionally stirring until the beef reaches your desired consistency, which should take about 1 to 2 more minutes. Add more water if you prefer a wetter mixture.
  6. Taste the filling and adjust the seasoning as needed. To serve, spoon the beef mixture into fresh lettuce leaves and top with shredded cheese, diced red onions, and chopped tomatoes. Garnish with the reserved green onion tops.
