Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup nuts

Method

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C) and greasing a 9x13-inch baking dish lightly.
  2. In a spacious bowl, mix together softened butter, brown sugar, a splash of vanilla extract, and an egg yolk until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Gradually incorporate flour and a pinch of salt, then press this dough into the bottom of the prepared baking dish firmly.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the crust achieves a lovely golden brown color.
  4. Once out of the oven, sprinkle chocolate chips over the warm crust. Let them sit for about 5 minutes to melt, then spread the chocolate evenly with a spatula. Top it off with a handful of your preferred nuts.
  5. Allow the bars to cool on a wire rack for 30 minutes before cutting them into squares.
