Ingredients

  • 1 bottle red wine
  • 1 cup port wine
  • 3 pieces cinnamon sticks
  • 5 pieces whole cloves
  • 1 strip orange peel
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup rum
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup chopped almonds

Method

  1. In a sizable saucepan, combine red wine, port, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and strips of orange peel. Gently heat on medium-low until it starts to simmer.
  2. Stir in sugar, rum, and brandy, mixing until the sugar completely dissolves. Let the mixture simmer for an additional 5 minutes, ensuring it steams without boiling.
  3. Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, blend together raisins and chopped almonds.
  4. To serve, ladle the warm mulled wine into festive coffee cups or traditional Swedish mugs. Top each cup with a spoonful of the raisin and almond blend for a delightful crunch.
