A warm and aromatic holiday drink that blends rich spices and fruits, perfect for chilly evenings and festive gatherings.
Ingredients
4 cups water
6 pieces cardamom pods
2 pieces cinnamon sticks
6 pieces cloves
1 tablespoon orange zest
1 cup sugar
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup slivered almonds
1 cup Muscatel wine
1 cup port wine
1/2 cup brandy
Method
Start by bringing water to a rolling boil in a sizable pot. Introduce cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and freshly grated orange zest. Stir in sugar until fully dissolved, then remove from heat and allow the mixture to steep for 8 hours or overnight for enhanced flavors.
In another large saucepan, place raisins and slivered almonds. Strain the spiced sugar water into this saucepan with the fruits. Then, pour in Muscatel, port, and brandy, warming the mixture over medium-high heat without letting it bubble.
Once warmed through, ladle the fragrant mulled wine into mugs, ensuring each serving includes some of the soaked fruits and almonds for a delightful textural contrast.
