This Cheesy Mushroom and Sausage Casserole is a comforting dish packed with flavor, featuring savory sausage and mushrooms enveloped in a creamy, cheesy mixture, topped with a crunchy breadcrumb layer.
Ingredients
1 pound sausages
8 ounces mushrooms
2 cloves garlic
4 ounces cream cheese
4 ounces Gournay cheese
1 cup mozzarella cheese
3/4 cup Parmesan cheese
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons oil
to taste fresh parsley
Method
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and gather all your ingredients.
In a large nonstick pan, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium-high heat. Add the sausage and cook for about 8 minutes, stirring often, until it is browned and crumbled.
Transfer the cooked sausage to a mixing bowl, leaving the drippings in the pan.
Add another tablespoon of oil to the drippings in the skillet and toss in the mushrooms. Sauté them for 8 to 10 minutes until they are browned and most of their moisture has evaporated.
Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, mix in the cream cheese and Gournay cheese, stirring until melted and smooth.
Combine the mushroom mixture with the cooked sausage in the bowl, then fold in the mozzarella cheese and half a cup of Parmesan until everything is well blended.
Pour the mixture into a greased 13x9-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
In a separate bowl, combine panko breadcrumbs with melted butter and the remaining 1/4 cup of Parmesan. Sprinkle this topping generously over the casserole.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving hot.
