This delicious caramelized apple skillet tart features tender apples atop a buttery, flaky crust, making it an irresistible dessert that’s easy to prepare.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 medium apples
  • 1 round pie dough

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Grease a 10-inch oven-safe skillet with a generous amount of butter, then sprinkle sugar evenly over the melted butter.
  3. Arrange the apple quarters, cut side down, in a circular pattern on top of the butter and sugar mixture.
  4. Heat the skillet over medium-high heat until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves, allowing the mixture to caramelize. Cook until the apples are tender and the caramel has a deep brown color, roughly 10 to 12 minutes, then take it off the heat.
  5. On a floured surface, roll out the pie pastry into an 11-inch round, creating a ruffled edge by pinching the dough.
  6. Drape the rolled pastry over the caramelized apples, tucking the edges around the fruit.
  7. Bake the skillet in the preheated oven until the crust turns a beautiful golden brown, approximately 20 minutes. Let it cool for 5 minutes once done.
  8. To serve, place a plate over the skillet and invert it to release the tart. If any apples remain stuck, gently scrape them off and reposition them on the tart.
